Jason DePue is a member of the first violin section of the Philadelphia Orchestra. A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, he actively teaches violin privately, ranging from in-person to online virtual lessons. His students enjoy scholarships to top music schools and summer festivals, and many enjoy successful careers as independent performing artists and teachers in their own right. He’s explored performing recitals of the Bach Sonatas and Partitas, the Paganini Caprices, the works of Ysaye, (see below on this page), the Beethoven, Brahms, Schubert and Frank piano/violin sonatas, among many other famous works for violin. He also has completed various albums such as his recent encore recording "Spanish Essentials for Violin and Piano." In leadership roles, Jason was concertmaster of the New York String Seminar under Jamie Laredo, the Symphony Orchestra of the Curtis Institute of Music under Otto-Werner Mueller, the Verbier Festival Orchestra of Switzerland, and the Music Symphony Festival Orchestra in Chautauqua, NY.

Jason continues to engage in musical collaborations ranging from chamber music to innovative projects. He was in attendance at the Steans Institute at Ravinia, the Isaac Stern Workshop, Jerusalem Music Encounters, the La Jolla, Kingston, Sarasota (Fl.), Encore, Saratoga (NY), and St. Barth's chamber music festivals. He's soloed with the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, the Cleveland Philharmonic, Columbus, Toledo, Lima, and Springfield Symphonies. Occasionally, he also concertizes with the DePue Brothers Band, where he additionally plays mandolin and viola. For one of the Philadelphia Orchestra's Opening Night Galas, the DePue Brothers Band were honored to be guests in which four original arrangements of Jason's were premiered.

Born and raised in Bowling Green, Ohio, his principal violin teachers include Boris Brant (who is referenced in the book “Teaching Genius: Dorothy DeLay and the Making of a Musician”), Vasile Beluska (who participated in the original Jascha Heifetz Masterclasses), and David Cerone (founder of Encore School for Strings). Additional former teachers include William de Pasquale, Aaron Rosand, Joseph Silverstein, Ida Kavafian, Yumi Scott, Yair Kless, and Jamie Laredo.

Jason DePue plays on a beautiful French violin made by Charles Francois Gand, France, ca 1825.
